Title: ENGLISH I (HONORS)


Recommended Grade Level:  9


Duration:  2 semesters


Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation and/or A average


 


This course is designed for the student with above average or exceptional ability in grammar and composition skills, and who has a great zest for exploring the literary world.  In addition to traditional grammar and composition skills, the course offers advanced studies of methods of writing and composition as well as methods for reading literature on a more advanced level.  Students should be able to interpret meanings of literary terms and vocabulary words through context clues and use them appropriately.   Written book reports, literary analyses, and a formal research paper are required as well as required outside reading of two novels every six weeks followed by written reports, oral reports, or standardize testing.
