Louisiana Requirements for a diploma 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION
STANDARD DIPLOMA

(Effective for Incoming Freshmen 2003-04 and thereafter)

ENGLISH -
4 Units

Shall be English I, II, and III, and English IV or Business English.
MATHEMATICS- 
3 Units

Shall be selected from the following courses and may include a maximum of two entry level courses (designated by E):

    Introductory Algebra/Geometry (E)
    Algebra I-Part I (E)
    Algebra I-Part II
    Integrated Mathematics I (E)
    Integrated Mathematics II
    Integrated Mathematics III
    Applied Mathematics I (E)
    Applied Mathematics II
    Applied Mathematics III
    Algebra I (E)
    Geometry
    Algebra II
    Financial Mathematics
    Advanced Mathematics I
    Advanced Mathematics II
    Pre-Calculus
    Calculus
    Probability and Statistics
    Discreet Mathematics

    SCIENCE -
    3 Units

    Shall be one unit of Biology; and

    • one unit of Physical Science or Integrated Science (but not both), or Chemistry I, Physics I or Physics of Technology I;
    • one unit from Aerospace Science, Biology II, Chemistry II, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Physics II, Physics of Technology II, Agriscience I and Argriscience II or any other course not already taken from the Physical Science Cluster or a locally designed elective.

    *If a student takes Physical Science or Integrated Science, s/he may then take Chemisty I, Physics I or Physics of Technology I as a required science course.  If a student takes Chemistry I, Physics I or Physics of Technology I to fulfill the Physical Science requirement s/he may not then take Physical Science or Integrated Science as the third required science course, but may take such courses as an elective.

    SOCIAL STUDIES -
    3 Units

    Shall be United States History; ½ Unit of Free Enterprise; ½ Unit of Civics and

    One of the following

    • World History
    • World Geography or
    • Western Civilizatoin.
    HEALTH EDUCATION -
    ½ Unit
    -
    PHYSICAL EDUCATION -
    1½ Units

    Shall be Physical Eduation I and II or Adapted Physical Education for special education students.

    NOTE: The substitution of JROTC for Physical Education is permissable.  A maximum of 4 units may used towards graduation.

    COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY -
    1 Unit

    Shall be taken from the following:

    Computer/Technology Literacy (½ credit)
    Computer Applications or Business Comuter Applications (1 credit)
    Computer Architecture (1 credit)
    Computer Science I, II (1 credit each)
    Computer Systems and Networking I, II (1 credit each)
    Desktop Publishing (½ credit)
    Digital Graphics and Animation (½ credit)
    Multimedia Presentations (1 credit)
    Web Mastering or Webdesign (½ credit)
    Independant Study in Technology Applications (1 credit)
    Word Processing (1 credit)
    Telecommunications (½ credit)
    Introducation to Business Computer Applications (1 credit)
    Technology Education Computer Application (1 credit) or Advanced Technical Drafting (1 credit)

    ELECTIVES -
    7 Units

    Students must complete an area of concentration developed locally by a district curriculum team and approved by BESE. 

    The course requirements for the career major shall consist of the following: At least 6 or more credits consisting of 4 credits in an area of concentration and 2 related credits, including 1 credit in a computer technology course.

    In addition to the requirements of 23 units, all required components of the EXIT TEST must be passed to receive a diploma!
