Description: This course will enlarge the student's functional vocabulary, develop interpretive and analytical abilities in handling literature, refine the student's ability to write paragraphs, and enable the student to utilize a variety of skills. Written book reports, abbreviated research paper and outside reading per each six weeks as well as the Accelerated Reading program each six weeks.

Description: This course is designed for the student with above average or exceptional ability in grammar and composition skills, and who has a great zest for exploring the literary world. In addition to traditional grammar and composition skills, the course offers advanced studies of methods of writing and composition as well as methods for reading literature on a more advanced level. Students should be able to interpret meanings of literary terms and vocabulary words through context clues and use them appropriately. Written book reports, literary analyses, and a formal research paper are required as well as required outside reading of two novels every six weeks followed by written reports, oral reports, or standardize testing.

Description: At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to exhibit proficiency in spelling and vocabulary skills, react in an appropriate fashion to various literary genres, demonstrate mastery of the paragraph and 5-paragraph essay in all four forms of discourse, and utilize library skills in research as well as written book reports, research paper and outside reading per each six weeks.

Description: This course is designed for the student with above average or exceptional ability in grammar and composition skills and who has a zest for continuing advanced studies in grammar and composition, as well as literature. In addition to traditional grammar, composition and literary skills, advanced methods in writing and composition, as well as advanced readings in literature are offered. Written book reports, literary analyses, and a research paper is required as well as required outside reading of a novel every three weeks followed by a written or oral presentation. Students are required to enter a writing contest each semester.

The student should be able to analyze literature using an acquired knowledge of terminology, techniques, devices and approaches. The student will also prepare a research paper on a literary topic. Students will read at least one novel outside of class each month.

Description: English III AP is an advanced placement English course with emphasis on literature to the appropriate period of time studied in American History. The honors student will engage in frequent and extensive writing and revision of essays in all four forms of discourse. A requirement for this course is the outside reading of a novel every three weeks followed by a written report. The student will utilize library resources to prepare a research paper on a literary topic. This course is for the above average and self-motivated student. College credit may be earned in the spring semester by earning top scores on the College Board test.

This course will survey British Literature from its Anglo-Saxon origins to contemporary British authors.

Description: This course, designed for the above average or exceptional student in grammar, composition, and literary interpretation skill, will survey British literature from its Anglo-Saxon origin to contemporary British authors. The student who chooses to pursue studies in this area should be able to analyze different literary genres using an acquired knowledge of terminology, techniques, devices, and approaches as well as to relate the works studied to the appropriate time periods in British history. The student will write frequently in all forms of discourse and will utilize library resources for brief essays to research papers. Students will be expected to participate in more independent study. College credit may be earned through spring testing.
